Meat the team: Mike van der Does

15 februari 2024

To start, could you tell us a bit more about yourself and your role within Iberdeli?

I'm Mike from Rotterdam, married to a lovely woman, with whom I'm raising two amazing sons.

In my free time, I'm much into sports and music. I still play football, enjoy a game of padel, or go boxing. Besides sports, you'll often find me at the Kuip (Feyenoord Stadium) or attending music events. At Iberdeli, I'm one of the drivers.

How did you end up at Iberdeli?

I started at Iberdeli three years ago. At that time, I was looking for something else, and through a mutual friend of Bas and me, I heard that Iberdeli was looking for a new driver. That's how things started rolling.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

In the morning, I'm usually in the warehouse, assisting with picking orders or other tasks that need attention. Once the routes are set, we load up the buses and hit the road to deliver our beautiful products to our clients.

What makes being a driver at Iberdeli enjoyable?

What I love about being a driver is that every day is different, even though you may be familiar with the routes and delivery areas. It helps that we deliver to super friendly addresses, and you build a connection with the clients.

Short trips or long hauls?

I don't have a preference for short or long trips; the variety is what I enjoy most. I like cruising through cities like Rotterdam, The Hague, or Utrecht, but driving long stretches, like on the A7, is also great. On those long stretches, you can relax and enjoy the scenery. It's a lovely moment for myself.

What meat would you wake up for at night?

One piece of meat I really love is picanha. You won't find me in the kitchen often, but when the sun's out, you'll find me behind the barbecue. Picanha is perfect for that, haha.

Finally, with which colleague would you like to swap roles for a week and why?

Actually, with no one. I have the best job within the company, and I think many other colleagues would agree if I look at the other interviews. But if I had to choose, I'd like to swap with my colleague driver from our subsidiary in Spain. Driving in the sunshine is just a bit nicer than here in the rain.
