Meat the team: Alex de Groot

7 februari 2024

First of all, can you tell us a bit more about yourself and your role within Iberdeli?

My name is Alex de Groot, and I live in the beautiful polder of Lekkerkerk. At Iberdeli, I fulfill both the roles of financial advisor and controller. It's my responsibility to oversee the defined long-term objectives and ensure their realization. In my free time, you can often find me at the gym, enjoying a game of tennis, or going for a run - especially to compensate for indulging in sweets. Additionally, I like to potter around in the garden and love firing up the barbecue, both in summer and winter.

How did you come to work at Iberdeli?

Through my personal relationship with the owners. After my time as an accountant at a large accounting firm, I wanted to specialize more as a financial advisor within SMEs. By 2015, Iberdeli had grown to such an extent that a position as a financial advisor became available. Over the past few years, the company has grown significantly, expanding my responsibilities as well.

How does a typical workday look for you?

I'm always at the office, whether it's behind my computer or in a meeting. Using Excel, I assess the company's financial performance, and I also strive to be a sounding board for our team members on financial matters.

What do you enjoy most about your job at Iberdeli?

First and foremost, I would mention the team at Iberdeli. The team consists of a group of young people who are all eager to achieve good results both together and individually. We also enjoy doing things together outside of work, which creates a strong bond.

Secondly, it's great to be able to work with quality meat products every day as a barbecue enthusiast. Often, something from Iberdeli finds its way into my pan or onto the grill at home.

Lastly, I'm very drawn to the profile of the company. Iberdeli is a true SME, which means my financial tasks are very diverse. That diversity is why I chose to work for a company like Iberdeli.

Finally, what is your favorite piece of meat, and how do you prefer to prepare it?

You can always wake me up for tenderloin, bavette, rib fingers, and secreto. However, at the moment, I do have a pronounced favorite: our own USA burgers! These are actually made in the United States itself.

I find them most delicious when grilled on the barbecue. I recently organized a winter barbecue at home, and we went through quite a few boxes then
